With Packeteer hardware extensions, you can deploy PacketShaper into a wider variety of topologies, extend bypass to optical interfaces and use a single PacketShaper for multiple LANs.

LAN Expansion Modules (LEM): Jump to Pricing!

Create flexible deployment options for complex topologies with additional PacketShaper network interfaces.

• Up to two LEM slots—each with a pair of interfaces—available for PacketShaper models 2500, 4500, 6500, 8500, 9500 and 10000.
• Gigabit and fiber-optic LEMs available for PacketShaper models 6500, 8500, 9500 and 10000.

Packeteer LEMs provide additional network interfaces to PacketShaper, creating flexible deployment options for complex topologies. The 2500, 3500, 6500, 7500, 8500, 9500 and 10000 have slots for up to two LEMs (each LEM has two ports added to the standard interfaces), providing PacketShaper appliances with up to three pairs of network interfaces. (Gigabit and fiber-optic LEMs are available on the 3500, 6500, 7500, 8500, 9500 and 10000.)

LEMs are critical for topologies such as:

• Multiple LAN segments feeding a single WAN or Internet link
• A DMZ where the firewall/router splits the network into two separate LANs (protected and DMZ)
• Routers configured for redundancy with multiple physical paths
• Packeteer Direct Standby for state redundancy on monitoring and shaping multiple WAN links
• Packeteer watch mode, non-inline installations with taps, span and mirror ports for monitoring and compression estimation
• Networks desiring out-of-band management for additional physical and/or logical management paths

Packeteer offers two Memory Upgrade Kits for running the most recent PacketWise software on an older PacketShaper.

• The MUK-1G kit for the PacketShaper 8500 includes two 512MB memory modules.
• The MUK-512M memory kit for the PacketShaper 2500 and PacketShaper 4500 includes two 256MB memory modules.

Additional Memory Upgrade Kits are designed to extend the hardware configuration of new PacketShapers for future use.

• The MUK-PS1400 kit for the PacketShaper 1400 includes one 1GB memory module
• The MUK-PS1700-3500 kit for the PacketShaper 1700 and 3500 includes one 1GB memory module

Fiber Bypass Switches (FBS): Jump to Pricing!

Designed for fiber-optic network interfaces, Packeteer FBSs are external bypasses that ensure uninterrupted network access even if a PacketShaper loses power, is in bypass mode or encounters an unlikely failure.

FBSs have a spherical mirror that reflects optical signals to the appropriate fiber-optic connector, and power is only required to maintain the specified connectivity state. The device’s default state is to bypass; a control cable signals a change to normal mode to send/receive traffic through the PacketShaper.

• Switches come in a multi-mode fiber version and single-mode fiber version
• Each model has four fiber-optic interfaces — one for each of the PacketShaper interfaces (inside and outside), one for the router and one for the LAN switch.

IP KVM Switch: Jump to Pricing!

The Packeteer IP KVM is a powerful device that can make remote management of your iShaper, iShared or PacketShaper easier. For Packeteer devices that run the Windows operating system, IP KVM can offer full remote management of the BIOS and Operating System by one or more concurrent users. For PacketShaper it provides a way to provide remote access to the unit's console port via telnet or a web browser. With the IP KVM Switch offers:

• Full control of you iShaper™, iShared® or PacketShaper® appliance with remote access
• Gigabit and fiber-optic LEMs available for PacketShaper models 6500, 8500, 9500 and 10000.

Packeteer PacketShaper Extension Notes:

• A LEM-100M and a LEM2G can not be installed in a 6500 together
• Factory Installed LEMs can only be ordered with a new unit.
• Fiber Bypass Switch Rack Mount Kits can accommodate up to 3 Fiber Bypass Switches
• One Memory Upgrade Kit can be installed on a PS3500 for a total 2 GB RAM, One or Two kits can be used on the PS1700 for a total of 1 or 2 GB of RAM
• One Memory Upgrade Kit can be installed on a PS1400, replacing the existing memory, for a total of 1 GB RAM
• Factory Installed Memory Upgrade Kits can only be ordered with a new unit.
• Upgrading the RAM to 512MB will increase the class capacity on the PS2500 from 256 to 512.
• There are no direct PacketCare offerings for LEMs and MUKs. PacketCare offerings purchased for PacketShaper will automatically extend coverage to the LEM or MUK.
