| Leverage our unique
file-aware WAFS technology to ensure complete data integrity and
consistency—even in the event of WAN disruption or equipment failure
at the branch office. WAFS Acceleration

Packeteer WAFS technology dramatically
accelerates file transfer across the WAN, overcoming native
protocol limitations.
Uniquely Secure and Accurate:
Packeteer's WAFS technology is unlike any other, pulling from
its file-aware WAFS foundation to ensure complete data integrity
and consistency—even when the WAN is disrupted or branch office
equipment breaks down. Other WAFS solutions jump to save operations
without maintaining file logs or preventing additional risk.
File and Data Integrity Management:
No need to trade off between performance and reliability. Unlike
other WAFS products, Packeteer's distributed file system technology
incorporates lock manager, journaling and recovery to deliver maximum
WAFS performance while protecting remote users from stale data,
write collisions, WAN outages and system failures.
File updates made by one user will never conflict with updates
made by another. Updated files are always available to all users
across the network. All file changes are synchronously logged to
persistent storage at the remote office, guaranteeing data integrity
during WAN disruptions, power outages and reboots.
| How Packeteer WAFS Works: Data is securely
held at the branch—with instant access always in synch
with the master copy maintained at the data center.
Access the local copy to "check" with the master and
ensure the local file is up to date. Coherency and integrity
is guaranteed and maintained through full management
of read/write/lock operations integrated with your file
system.
Make terabytes of data available to remote locations
while maintaining control and access at the data center,
ensuring that data is properly maintained and backed
up. Control the amount of disk and storage space required
at remote sites by allowing speedy access to ALL centrally
located data and locally cached copies of the most used
files.

Single-instance Storage:
Packeteer's single-instance storage technology ensures that file
data is only held at the edge—close to branch office users—with
no data mirroring needed at headquarters. No need to double-size
the data center, much larger numbers of remote appliances can be
deployed against a single server appliance at the data center.
Other WAFS solutions require byte-for-byte matching mirrored
at the data center, leading to scalability limits and spiraling
costs. Packeteer appliances can be automatically pre-populated at
the edge for frequently used data without the need for external
agents or applications. Also, IT personnel can pre-position data
at the edge—in advance of user request—to spread network traffic
more evenly throughout the workday and improve branch office performance.
End-to-End Microsoft Security:
Packeteer offers the only solution on the market today that natively
supports complete end-to-end CIFS security for maximum protection
against hackers and other intrusions. Our WAFS technology incorporates
native CIFS technology from Microsoft—future-proofing your technology
investment against upcoming protocol changes.
Other WAFS solutions are incompatible with Microsoft end-to-end
security policies. Even when these policies are enabled, they fail
to perform adequate optimizations over the WAN. Packeteer WAFS integrates
natively with these security policies and offers no compromise between
performance and security.
Native Microsoft Integration:
Incorporating native Microsoft technology, Packeteer WAFS integration
seamlessly integrates with technologies such as Active Directory,
Kerberos Authentication and CIFS security. Packeteer will continue
to leverage Microsoft technology as Microsoft protocols evolve—and
substantial revisions are already planned for Windows Vista and
Longhorn—rather than relying on reverse engineering or open source
projects.
Disaster Recovery (DR) Support:
An organization may establish a duplicate secondary data center
at another corporate location or business recovery company as part
of its business continuity strategy. Packeteer configures this secondary
data center with remotely connected and synchronized appliances—ready
to take over when disaster strikes.
When the primary data center goes down, normal branch office
operations are restored by activating appliances at the secondary
data center—transparent to remote appliances and branch office users.
Leverage the cached data in the branch office appliances and preserve
user performance.
Failover
At the local level, Packeteer failover technology keeps individual
appliances highly available at the data center and remote sites.
Pair any "critical" appliance with another in an active/passive
configuration. The system state and cache are mirrored via a private
network connection between the units. When one device fails, the
other comes online and transparently takes over—operations continue
without manual intervention.
